This document describes how to configure a PPP client for Windows XP Professional and Windows XP Home Edition.

These instructions assume you are using the default Windows XP window and menu layout. Steps for the classic layout are also provided where relevant.

STEP 1: Open New Connection Wizard

  • Start
  • Control Panels
  • Network And Internet Connections
  • Double-click Network Connections
  • Double-click New Connection Wizard

...or, for the classic menu layout:

  • Start
  • Settings
  • Control Panels
  • Double-click Network Connections
  • Double-click New Connection Wizard

STEP 2: Choose Network Connection Type

The New Connection Wizard will start to assist you with your configuration.

  • Click "Next" to continue
  • Click on "Connect to the Internet"
  • Click "Next" to continue

Again, depending on whether or not you have setup previous Network Connection sessions, you may see the following screen:



What you do next depends on your particular setup. These instructions assume that you have no other Internet Service Provider setup (such as America Online).

  • Click "Set up my connection manually"
  • Click OK

You should now see a screen like the one below:

  • Click "Connect using a dial-up modem"
  • Click "Next" to continue

STEP 3: Configure Dial-Up Settings

You will now see the following screen. It will start guiding you through the final configuration steps.

  • Enter "CyberNetworks" in the ISP Name field
  • Click "Next" to continue
  • Enter a telephone number in the Phone number field (consult your setup sheet if in question)
  • Click "Next" to continue
  • Enter your username and password (consult your setup sheet if in question)
  • You can typically leave the first two checkboxes checked, however you should consider unchecking the first box for security reasons if multiple people use your computer.
  • We suggest you enable the Internet Connection Firewall.
  • Click "Next" to continue

If all goes well, you should see the screen below, indicating that your Network Connection configuration was successfully completed.

  • Click the "Add a shortcut to this connection to my desktop" checkbox
  • Click Finish
